Since it’s adoption into western society, Yoga has long been considered a female practice. But the times are changing and more and more men are becoming aware of the health benefits of Yoga. Physical conditioning, spirituality and not to mention improvements in your sex life are just some of the ways Yoga can enhance your life.
I often hear people say, “I’m not very flexible, I don’t think Yoga is for me”, or “Isn’t Yoga just for sissy men and dudes who wear lycra?”
You couldn’t be further from the truth!
Yoga has been shown to increase Flexibility, joint strength and is starting to be recognized as a potent complementary practice for sportsmen to better their game. We all have to start somewhere; there are many more benefits to Yoga than just being able to touch your toes. AND you don’t have to wear lycra! On the downside, you may have to get used to practicing Yoga surrounded by a room full of women, but I think you will learn to live with it!
Sounds good? Then where do you start?
Beginning Yoga is easy. All you really need to begin is a Yoga Mat, and some mens Yoga pants.
Mens Yoga clothing choice is important as what you wear can determine the results you get from your practice. Yoga attire that is too long, baggy or tight will work against you and can make Yoga a frustrating practice instead of an enlightening one. It is both important that you wear comfortable clothes that help to maximize your training. I have be practicing Yoga for many years and I hope through my recommendations you can feel good knowing you are investing in your mind and body to live a longer, healthier life.

At first it may seem like there are many choices, but don’t worry! By the time you finish reading my articles, I am confident that you will feel comfortable in clothes suitable for Yoga that wont make you stand out in the crowd. And I promise, you wont have to wear tights! (Not that there is anything wrong with that!)

Many guys are not aware that a pair of mens Yoga pants are essential in order to maximize the benefits of Yoga practice. When men decide they would like to try out Yoga, one of the first questions are “what should I wear?”. Unfortunately while your jeans may be great for the pub or a night out on the town, they are not going to cut it in the Yoga studio. A lot of men are also uncomfortable at the thought of wearing lycra or clothes that would put super heroes to shame. I’m telling you that all you really need is a good pair of Yoga pants.
The choice of mens yoga clothing is very important. The wrong clothes can actually work against you. Although men are usually comfortable in jeans for any occasion, denim doesn’t stretch very well. Your movements will be restricted and it will be difficult to move through the Yoga poses. So sorry dudes, looks like the Jeans are out. However, this is where a good pair of pants come in. If you could only make one investment in your yoga practice, it would be getting a good set of Yoga pants.
There are all kinds of cuts, styles and patterns of mens yoga pants. There are very long cuts, 3/4 pants, tight and loose styles. Pants are made from a variety of materials ranging from 100% Organic cotton to Hemp and Bamboo. Also there are a spectrum of colors as well as embroided patterns. It may seem a little overwhelming at first, but there are a few things to look out for.
How tight do you want your Yoga Pants? Pants that are more fitting are great for beginners as the instructor can easily see the structure of the body and correct any alignment issues. Pants that are too baggy may feel great, but you might be practicing Yoga incorrectly which in the long term will not benefit you at all. On the other side, pants that are too tight can both be unflattering and restrict your movement. The rule of thumb is wear whatever you feel comfortable wearing that does not impede your practice, and that you can wear walking down the street without getting funny looks.
When deciding what color to wear, my preference is to go “Dark and Earthy” . I like to wear the Black, Brown and Navy styles. Darker colors are great because they generally always look good, and also tends to “Hide the package” better. Really, choose what ever color you like, but try and stay away from the bright colors as they can be distracting to the other practitioners. Fluro is definitely out, Black is always a safe bet.
An important decision when looking for looking for a pair of pants, is the material quality. Eco-friendly fabrics are always a fantastic option. Also on a practical side, we want to be wearing fabrics that breathe and will absorb sweat. This will prevent us from overheating during our practice and (as a side note) are usually the most comfortable type of pants.
To get the best out of Yoga practice, you will need a pair of Mens Yoga Pants. Ultimately, choose something that you would feel comfortable in, allows you the movement needed to practice yoga, and a pair that you wouldn’t be embarrassed your friends seeing.
